Doctor Barbro Fridén earned an MD degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University, Sweden, in 1983. She has subsequently specialised in Obstetrics and Gynecology, focusing on reproductive medicine and IVF. In 1999, she completed her PhD thesis in human ovarian physiology at Gothenburg Univeristy, having spent one year at the University of California San Diego as part of her research in infertility, luteal function and ovarian failure.
Dr Fridén has for the past decade held several leading positions in Swedish healthcare in both public and private practices. She is currently the CEO of Sweden’s largest hospital, the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg.
Preceding this, Dr Fridén served four years as Director for the Children’s Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. As of 2010, Dr Fridén is a member of the Board of Directors for Swedish bio-tech company VitroLife.
